What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Chiropractics? For me it was "back problems". Until very recently, I did not comprehend what chiropractic services could do for the whole family. It was about a year ago while working at a daycare center that a parent said that they brought their infant to regular chiropractic appointments. For my 8 years of child care I had never heard of such a thing! I was like "WEIRD". But once I started learning more about it I was fascinated by the benefits of it all.
On this wonderful journey of fertility, I took the liberty of interviewing a local Chiropractor. I have come to know and trust her with some important & personal questions I had about chiropractic work in regards to fertility and hormones. This was something I never knew was even an option for women like me.
So I interviewed my friend Kaley...
Who & Where
"My name is Kaley Jacobsson, I am the owner and chiropractor at ChiroWay of Monticello [Minnesota]. My husband and I live in in Big Lake with our 14 month old daughter, Nora and our dog, Gauge. We opened the doors of ChiroWay of Monticello in August of 2015, so we’re coming up on our one year anniversary! ChiroWay is a membership style of chiropractic that gives people access to affordable, and convenient chiropractic care on a routine basis. Something a lot of people don’t know about chiropractic care is that it should be done on a regular basis, regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms Our bodies our amazing and were designed to be well, and designed to communicate properly to all parts of our body. It does that through our nervous system; our brain, sends information through our spinal cord and out nerves and then back to our brain to control every cell, organ, tissue and function within our body. It is what tells our heart to pump, our lungs to breath, our bodies to heal a cut, to kill off bad germs and cells, and make new healthy ones. It is what gives us life. And in life we encounter stress, physical, chemical, and emotional stress. And these stresses cause subluxations of our spine, which protects and houses our spinal cord. This decreases the communication between our brain and our bodies, and now our bodies can no longer communicate or function at 100% like they were meant to. By regularly checking and removing subluxations, we can turn back on the communication between the brain and bod, bringing our bodies closer 100% of their potential allowing us to live a higher quality of life. So that is what I do! I get to help people, and families, and kiddos live a higher quality of life!
What made you get into prenatal chiropractic work?
"I have always loved working with children, in fact most every job I’ve had has revolved around children. I love watching them learn and grow and what better way to help them start life off at their very best than to start while the are developing in mom! So much goes on in moms body while we create these tiny perfect little humans, and our nervous system is at the root of it. So if we can make sure moms body is communicating and functioning at its best, then baby can too. And then we can start adjusting those little babies right after birth and ensuring that their nervous system is functioning at its best, allowing them to grow up living a higher quality of life. And of course continuing to take care of mom (and dad!) too, because I think we can all agree that parenthood brings about new/additional stressors".
How & Why Chiropractic Work?
How can chiropractic work help a woman who is trying to conceive or balance their own hormones? How is it connected to diet & exercise?
*Note that this is relevant to me because of my recent weight loss journey!* - Amanda
"Again, this goes back to our nervous system. Someone who is trying to conceive would want to make sure that their nervous system is communicating to all parts of the body like it should, and that goes for dad as well as mom. There are so many hormones and processes that play a role and that need to be happening while trying to conceive and it works a lot better if the body is communicating properly and doing the things it is suppose to and in right timing, like making and releasing hormones properly. As far as weight loss, and diet and exercise. These things are great for us, but they do cause us stress, regardless if it is good or bad, stress causes subluxations. So we want to make sure, if someone is experiencing more stress in their life (like undergoing surgery and a large amount of weight loss) that they are getting checked the right amount! And diet, exercise, getting enough sleep are important when trying to conceive but really, they are important for any human being, the same is true for chiropractic care, it should be part of a healthy lifestyle!"
How often does a woman who is struggling with fertility hormone imbalance visit a chiropractor?
"Really the same as I would recommend for anyone! At least once per week, depending on your stress level and how you respond to the adjustment, maybe more. When we have more stress in our lives, it can create more subluxations so then we might want to see you more than once a week until their body is adapting better to stress. But really my goal would be to have everyone, of every age in any circumstance adjusted weekly. That wouldn’t stop once you conceived, you should want your nervous system communicating at its very best all the time! It is equally as important for you to have good communication in your body during your pregnancy and after pregnancy so you can be the best you possible! The world only gets one you, we want it to be the best you!"

In conclusion, chiropractic work is beneficial to almost everyone in any stage of life! I am going to be having weekly adjustments myself during this process. I have already had a consultation and a few adjustments. My poster has improved and my back isn't hurting like it has been. I have also been teaching my yoga classes, which I am sure help but I would like to start adding in regular massages with my chiropractic appointments for total body & mental health. I look forward to exploring deeper in the world of chiropractics in a more natural way to help me conceive.
I would like to thank Kaley and ChiroWay of Monticello, MN for taking part in this blog. I would also like to say HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF BUSINESS! Here's to many more years of helping others live a better quality of life!
Thanks for reading!
Best of luck & Baby Dust to all!
